Tampere Cappella turns 10 – it’s time to take flight!
In its anniversary concert, Tampere’s own professional choir will perform stirring new and old choral music from Finland and around the world. Tampere Cappella is conducted by the choir’s artistic director, Markus Yli-Jokipii.

American composer Caroline Shaw (b. 1982) is one of today’s most performed composers in classical music. Three of her works will be featured: To the Hands, …and the Swallow, and the brand-new mixed choir piece Its Motion Keeps. Birds and love run as themes throughout the concert program.

The program also includes French composer Olivier Messiaen’s (1908–1992) rarely heard classic Cinq Rechants, as well as Norwegian composer Torbjørn Dyrud’s (b. 1974) Lovesongs. From the Finnish repertoire, audiences will hear Jean Sibelius’s (1865–1957) beautiful Cantique in a new arrangement for cello and choir.

The concert lasts approx. 2 hours, including intermission.

The world’s most beloved classical composer, Arvo Pärt, turns 90! Tampere Cappella wishes to celebrate the Estonian composer’s birthday with two festive concerts.

On stage, the professional choir Tampere Cappella will be joined by top organist Ilpo Laspas. The centerpiece of the program is Pärt’s powerful Berliner Messe, one of his most significant choral works. The concert also features a selection of his most cherished compositions from across the decades, alongside Gregorian chant from a thousand years ago—music especially close to Pärt’s heart.
