Choral Conductor
Markus Yli-Jokipii is the artistic director of Tampere Cappella, a freelance professional chamber choir he founded in 2015. In addition, he coaches the young artists of TAMK Choral Company. Yli-Jokipii has released recordings, conducted radio concerts and numerous world premieres over the years, and has served as the chair of the jury for the Finnish Choral Conductor Competition. In recent years, Yli-Jokipii has actively collaborated with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir in concerts and educational projects together with Tampere Cappella TAMK Music. The Finnish Choral Conductors’ Association named him Choral Conductor of the Year in 2017. Yli-Jokipii holds a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the Sibelius Academy and a Master of Arts degree in musicology from the University of Turku. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at the Sibelius Academy.

Orchestra conductor
The choral-orchestral repertoire is at the core of Markus Yli-Jokipii’s work as a conductor. Yli-Jokipii served as the conductor of the Kuninkaantien muusikot Baroque Orchestra and Choir from its founding until 2015. Earlier during his studies, he re-established the Collegium Musicum Turku orchestra at the University of Turku. Among the largest projects during his tenure were the revival of Leevi Madetoja’s lost cantata “Elämän päivät” and several world premieres. At TAMK Music, Yli-Jokipii regularly conducts the TAMK Symphony Orchestra.

Senior Lecturer in Choral Conducting
Yli-Jokipii has been a lecturer in choral conducting at TAMK Music since 2012. In addition to choral conducting, he teaches music history and is actively involved in the artistic planning of TAMK’s concerts and productions. In recent years, the choral conducting class at TAMK Music has become a very significant educator of Finnish choral conductors, continuosly engaging in international cooperation.
